Plans for a £50m redevelopment of the Vancouver shopping centre in King’s Lynn have been given the green light by King’s Lynn and West Norfolk council.
Joint developers Alfred McAlpine and Laing O’Rourke, advised by development manager Ashcroft Estates, are to increase the size of the centre to around 300,000 sq ft (27,870 sq m).
Around 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sq m) will be new build after part of the existing centre is demolished.
The council resolved to grant permission at the end of September 2002 and the secretary of state has now confirmed that the plans will not be called in.
The open, high street-style scheme, will include large floor plate units ranging from 16,000 sq ft (1,486 sq m) to 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sq m).
Construction work could now commence early next year with a completion date scheduled for mid-2004.
Ashcroft director Graham Cole said: “We are now able to progress with the scheme which will provide the large, flexible units that modern retailers want but which are not currently available elsewhere in Kings Lynn.
“We anticipate strong demand from retailers keen to take advantage of the opportunity to occupy new space at affordable rents.”
Colliers CRE is letting agent.
