Britain’s biggest retirement housebuilder has appointed a new chief executive and begun an overhaul of strategy that will focus on boosting its margins rather than building more homes.
McCarthy & Stone said that John Tonkiss was taking the top job, replacing Clive Fenton, who retired at the end of August after four years. Mr Tonkiss became interim chief executive at the start of the month and previously was chief operating officer.
Tonkiss has said he will cut jobs in a bid to boost margins in the face of a troubled housing market.
