McCarthy & Stone has received planning permission for the conversion of the Cliff Head Hotel in Carolyn Bay in Cornwall into retirement accommodation.
Cornwall council granted permission for 32 two-bedroom apartments with a gross development value of £13.4m.
The site is close to Commercial Estates Group’s planned £250m residential and leisure beachfront development at Carolyn Bay that received planning consent in February.
Stride Treglown has been hired as the architect for the redevelopment.
Permission was granted subject to the completion of a final agreement between McCarthy & Stone and Cornwall council, with final confirmation expected shortly.
Construction is due to start in November 2015, with completion due in January 2017.
Shane Paull, regional managing director for McCarthy & Stone, said: “Our apartments are specifically designed to meet the needs of people in later life and our redevelopment site will positively contribute to the Carolyn Bay area. It is our aim to bring forward this site as a signature development, which will have a whole host of benefits for the local economy and community.”
