Menzies, the 15-strong hotel chain bought by Japanese bank Nikko Principal Investments last year, is eyeing two exclusive retreats in the UK.
The company, which is keen to expand its portfolio following its £120m takeover, is one of the frontrunners to buy luxury country house hotel Hanbury Manor for around £45m.
The five-star, 161-bedroom Hertfordshire hotel is set in 200 acres and features an 18-hole championship golf course.
It is being marketed by Knight Frank.
Menzies, led by founder Nick Menzies, is also said to be eyeing a stake in the 65-bedroom Bovey Castle in Devon, being sold by entrepreneur Peter de Savary, for around £30m.
