MG Gleeson creates regeneration division

M J Gleeson Group has announced the creation of a regeneration division, Gleeson Partnerships, to be based at the its offices in Sheffield.

Gleeson Partnerships will manage Government-assisted urban regeneration projects, including mixed-use developments and those social housing PFI schemes which contain a proportion of land for speculative housing development.

In December, MJ Gleeson – a construction services, homes and property group – was appointed as the preferred bidder for the first of the Government’s housing PFI schemes, at Plymouth Grove, Manchester.

The Plymouth Grove scheme is expected to generate a construction value of £86m.

Since that appointment, MJ Gleeson has been selected as the preferred joint developer of the first phase of a regeneration scheme at Beswick in East Manchester, which will provide 450 homes for sale or rent.

In the year to 30 June 2001, the group made a pretax profit of £19m on a turnover of £422m and at that date had net assets of £146m.

MJ Gleeson is also engaged in one of the largest single regeneration programmes in Yorkshire & Humberside, at Norfolk Park, Sheffield, where 1,100 homes are being built.

G Noel Adams will be Gleeson Partnerships’ managing director.

Adams is a former director of the Urban Housing Trust and has worked for Ben Bailey Homes, Tarmac Homes, Miller Homes and Bellway.
