M&G hires Roundhill’s Eilers to head European residential

M&G Real Estate has hired Marcus Eilers as head of European residential.

The former Roundhill Capital residential head will lead M&G’s £76.7bn private assets and alternatives division’s expansion into the European living sector across its fund range.

Eilers will be based in M&G’s Frankfurt office and will report to Alex Greaves, head of UK and European Living.

Prior to joining Roundhill, Eilers was a founding partner of a boutique firm advising large residential landlords in Germany. In his new role he will identify opportunities to develop and invest in sustainable homes with high levels of amenity that support wellbeing and community.

Greaves said: “Marcus is one of Europe’s few experts with such deep knowledge in all aspects of residential investment, including operating efficiently at scale. His appointment bolsters our European team and complements our proven UK platform. We look forward to using our combined capabilities to grow residential exposure with the significant capital we have at our disposal across M&G’s European fund range.”

Eilers added: “There are housing supply/demand imbalances across many European cities and with that comes significant scope to provide attractive long-term, risk-adjusted returns and diversification benefits. The residential rental sector can also offer a degree of inflation protection, particularly where schemes are built or redeveloped in line with the highest sustainability credentials.”
