Iconic British motor brand MG has submitted plans for a new showroom opposite Fortnum & Mason in the heart of the West End.
MG Motor UK has proposed converting a bureau de change and offices on the basement and ground floor at 47-48 Piccadilly and 1-3 Albany Courtyard, W1, into a car showroom.
The application comes two months after SAIC Motor – whose subsidiary Nanjing Automobile rescued MG Rover from administration in 2005 – completed a circa £28m purchase of the building.
Upper floors at the 12,323 sq ft block are expected to be used as MG’s new London HQ.
It joins a number of other car makers nearby, including Aston Martin, McLaren and BMW, in an area that is rich in British motor sport history.
JLL is advising on planning.
