The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has brought together 375 industry leaders to come up with a plan for delivering the government’s 1.5m homes ambition.
The leaders included representatives from domestic and international institutional investors, developers, housebuilders, regeneration specialists, housing associations and combined and local authorities.
The event, held yesterday, was part of MHCLG and Homes England’s broader approach to secure new private investment in housing and the renewal of towns and cities.
Industry professionals discussed creating new partnerships that will significantly increase the scale of housebuilding and urban regeneration that is needed across England.
The event followed Pension Insurance Corporation, Muse and Homes England earlier this week announcing the launch of a joint venture with plans to deliver 3,000 low-carbon, low-energy affordable rental homes.
Lords minister for housing and local government Baroness Taylor said: “Our ambition to deliver 1.5m homes over the next five years will require significant investment, and that is why we are working closely with investors, local leaders and communities to unlock the capital needed to get Britain building again.
“This week’s symposium builds on the billions of pounds already secured by this government to drive forward regeneration across our towns and cities, and these new funds will help us deliver thousands of new homes.”
Peter Freeman, chair of Homes England, said: “In order to deliver the government’s ambition of 1.5m homes across this parliament, the housing and regeneration sector will need to build at a rate not seen in a generation.
“We will need bold leadership, significant and sustained investment, and a range of innovative public and private sector partnerships that will deliver schemes of all sizes across England.
“This event is about sparking partnerships between the institutional investor community and local and national leaders across towns and cities, as well as partners from across the housing and regeneration sector. Partnerships that unite us behind one common aim: to create more thriving homes and places that people want and need.”
