Michael Clark (57), president of the RICS for 1987-88. He joined his family’s practice, St John Smith & Son in Sussex, on leaving college, and after mergers became the senior partner of St John Vaughan. Elected to the RICS’ General Council in 1975, he was made a vice-president in 1983. A member of the Professional Practice Committee and chairman of it for three years, Mr Clark has, since 1979, played a leading part in the institution’s representations to the Monopolies Commission, Restrictive Trade Practices Court and Office of Fair Trading, Michael Clark served in the Territorial Army with the Sussex Yeomanry for 15 years and has been a magistrate since 1970.
