Microsoft plans to expand its research laboratory in Cambridge.
Options discussed with Cambridge University include building a stand-alone facility next door to Microsoft’s existing unit in the city centre. The University is backing the proposals but will have to find a tenant for the 20% of space left in its new computer facility. The laboratory is part of the university’s plans to develop a facility at west Cambridge.
Microsoft is also providing £70m for a partnership set up between Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under a government initiative to promote high tech industry.
