Midatlantic to roll out new hotel concept in Europe

American company Midatlantic Hotels is planning the first ever Candlewood Suites hotel outside the US in Berlin. It is also considering sites in Stuttgart, Hamburg and Switzerland for its extended stay concept.

Candlewood Hotel Co has signed an agreement with Dublin-based Midatlantic Hotels, a company owned by ECB Asset Management of London, for the rights to develop Candlewood suites in Germany and Switzerland. The hotel in Berlin will be close to Alexanderplatz.

The new suites will be one of the first hotels of its kind to be built in Europe. According to Midatlantic Hotels manager Marc Finney: “Even though the extended stay concept is becoming more common in the US, it is still fairly new in Europe.”

Midatlantic Hotels expects the first Candlewood operations to have up to 140 rooms and about 70% would be studio suites, with the remainder in one-bedroom suites.

ECB Asset Management is the London arm of the ERB Group of Swiss company Winterthur, which has an annual revenue of £1.8bn from 75 companies.
