Midlands merger creates £50m law firm

Two Midlands law firms are set to merge with Shakespeares, the region’s second-largest law firm with an annual turnover of almost £50m.

Niche Coventry firm Newsome Vaughan, which specialises in the social housing and financial services sectors, will merge on 1 October, while planning law practice and consultant Marrons formally joined with Shakespeares earlier this month.

Shakespeares says the mergers will enhance its planning and property practices and complement existing strengths in residential and commercial property development, social housing and banking/financial services.

Leicester-based Marrons and Newsome Vaughan marked the sixth and seventh mergers for Shakespeares since 2010.

The firm’s new planning team, Marrons Shakespeares, will be moving shortly from Meridian Business Park to the new Leicester city centre base at Two Colton Square.

Shakespeares chief executive Paul Wilson said: “Marrons and Newsome Vaughan perfectly complement our existing teams and are a key part of our growth strategy. The mergers again demonstrate our commitment to the east and south Midlands, our clients and markets. In Leicester the Marrons merger also underlines our significant investment in the city with the opening of our new city centre base at Two Colton Square.”
