Ministers running out of time to hit EPC targets

Ministers are running out of time to pass legislation to require a minimum of an EPC C on rental property.

The government’s plan, announced in 2020, is for landlords to meet the C band standard for new tenancies from 2025 and existing tenancies from 2028.

Legislation to achieve this is still not on the parliamentary timetable, leading the National Residential Landlords Association to say that the 2025 target was in effect “dead in the water”.

The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit has said that a two year delay would effectively cost tenants £1bn more in gas and electricity bills.
