Ministers ‘should rescue’ Daresbury lab

A report for the Department of Trade and Industry suggests ministers should rescue the government laboratory at Daresbury, Cheshire.

It says the laboratory should be re-established as a £100m centre for research in breast cancer diagnosis and heart disease.

The suggestion follows the anger that was generated in some quarters when the government chose Oxfordshire as the site for a new £500m synchrotron facility, instead of Daresbury, where an existing X-ray source is housed.
