Lord Whitty, environment minister, and Kim Howells, consumer minister, have called on Barclays customers to consider “voting with their feet” in protest at rural branch closures.
Barclays is scheduled to close 172 branches this Friday.
The banking group claims it is taking the flak for the entire industry. The Financial Times draws attention to the vast number of closures from other banks and says Barclay’s rationalisation is no more aggressive than its competitors.
