Mission Mars lands in Birmingham’s Digbeth

Bar and live music operator Mission Mars has agreed its first Birmingham location at a former nightclub owned by Oval Real Estate in Digbeth.

It has taken 12,000 sq ft at the former Air Nightclub at Heath Mill Lane, which has been vacant for 10 years.

The new bar and live music venue is called Zumhof Biergarten and offers speciality beers and food in the 1920s factory building.

Head of estates Jo Salmon said: “Mission Mars’s creative and collaborative approach makes it a perfect addition to the neighbourhood, and I am confident the ideas and ambition already demonstrated by Mission Mars will be a welcome addition to the exciting emerging scene in Digbeth.”

Oval Real Estate was advised by Midlands-based Creative Retail.

The developer is currently working up plans for a 15-year regeneration spanning 42 acres in Digbeth. The £1bn development will include 1,850 homes and 2.2m sq ft of commercial space, with offices, cultural space and public realm.
