A huge former Ministry of Defence (MoD) depot near Hereford has been put up for sale for more than £4m in a move that could kick-start inward investment in the region.
The MoD’s 85ha (210 acres) former depot at Moreton on Lugg benefits from an existing rail-freight line, which could be reconnected to the Newport to Crewe rail link. Knight Frank’s Rhys Morgan said: “With the ability to use the rail-freight connection, the site’s location on a main line and immediately adjacent to a north/south trunk road has all the potential to become one of national importance.”
Both B1 and B8 uses have been recommended in the council’s planning brief. A 19,509 sq m (210,000 sq ft) building on the site has already been refurbished and let to Davies Brook & Co for £268,000 pa.
Morgan continued: “We’re going to informal tender by the end of the year and inviting offers by the beginning of November. We’re getting interest from national developers and intend to sell the land for industrial use only.”
Knight Frank is sole agent for the scheme.
