The Ministry of Defence is to set up its own construction organisation to co-ordinate the £1.8m annual expenditure on MOD property and installations.
The move was prompted last year by a decision to free government departments from the constraint of having building and repair work carried out by the Property Services Agency.
The new bureaucratic body will be counter to the Government’s intentions to reduce civil service bureaucracy. However, the need to safeguard security in MOD projects has necessitated setting up this new organisation.
