MoD puts 12 sites up for sale

Ministry-of-Defence-THUMB.jpegThe Ministry of Defence has confirmed a £500m sale of 12 sites across the UK.

The land will have capacity for 15,000 homes.

The sites, which span 1.1m acres across England and Scotland, form the first tranche of the MoD’s strategy to reduce its estate by 30%.

It expects to raise £500m from the sales, which will be re-invested in defence.

The MoD has committed to generating £1bn through land sales by 2020, enabling the provision of up to 55,000 homes.

A full list of estates to be sold will be published in the MoD’s Footprint Strategy later this year.

The 12 sites are:

  • Kneller Hall in Twickenham, south-west London
  • Claro Barracks in Ripon, Yorkshire
