MoJ to sell Holloway prison site

The Ministry of Justice is planning to put its 10-acre Holloway prison site in Islington, N7, on the market in the autumn.

Proceeds from the sale will contribute to the MoJ’s prison reform programme to invest in modern, purpose-built prison facilities.

The London Borough of Islington is preparing a planning and development brief for the site. It is expected to be adopted as a supplementary planning document this autumn, steering the council’s local plan, due to be adopted in 2019.

GVA will market the site and work with the MoJ to contribute to the supplementary planning document to ensure “the best possible development potential” for the site.

Tom Marshall, senior director at GVA, said: “The development opportunity is likely to be one of the most significant in the London market this year. The MoJ is committed to updating prison facilities and disposals such as this of a former prison will enable them to reinvest in secure and safe new facilities.”
