Morecambe Football Club has launched proposals for development of a purpose built new home for the club at Westgate, Morecambe.
The Lancashire club secured football league status in May this year and is now looking forward to the possibility of moving into a new 6,000 capacity stadium, which will provide first class facilities for the club, its supporters and sponsors.
The club plans a comprehensive mixed-use development on the Westgate site, which will include a hotel, offices, pub/restaurant and other commercial space in addition to the stadium, together with grass and all weather sports pitches for community use.
Relocation of the club from its present 5-acre home at Christie Park will release the site for redevelopment.
Approximately 130 high quality houses and apartments are planned to replace the existing ground and facilities.
Detailed proposals are being worked up for both schemes and will be subject of consultation with the local community and Local Planning Authority, Lancaster City Council, before formal planning applications are submitted later this year.
Morecambe chairman Peter McGuigan announced the plans and said: “The proposal will deliver a stadium worthy of a football league side and will give an enormous boost to the club and people of Morecambe alike.”
Maze Planning Solutions will provide planning consultancy advice for the project.
