MORNING NEWS: Appear Here on developing in Deptford

Good morning, and welcome to your Friday round-up of news, views and interviews from EG, plus some real estate-relevant stories from the papers.

This week’s big interview is with Appear Here founder Ross Bailey. EG met with Bailey in Deptford, south-east London, to see how Appear Here and LandsecU+I have turned a derelict two-acre site into Deptford Market Yard, with 20 shops, restaurants and artists’ studios.

“You don’t want to gentrify somewhere, but gentrification shouldn’t mean you can’t create beautiful places,” Bailey says. “If the money is going to people from the area and building great stuff, that’s progress.”

Build-to-rent investment volumes have jumped to their highest quarterly level on record, according to Knight Frank data shared exclusively with EG. Investment reached £1.3bn in the first three months of this year, with London bouncing back and accounting for more than half of that figure.

There’s also flex advisory M&A, promotions at Colliers and a new climate risk framework to help real estate investors weigh up the sustainability challenges affecting their assets.
