MORNING NEWS: Blackstone buys Dream and McCloud needs silver lining

Good morning. This is your briefing of all the best bits of today’s national newspapers. The FT (£) gives some detail about Blackstone’s property warchest, after it bought Canadian Reit Dream Global for £3.78bn. TV property guru Kevin McCloud still can’t catch a break, as residents of one of his HAB developments claim it is ‘like Fawlty Towers’ (£). Meanwhile, investors in one of Gavin Woodhouse’s care homes have been asked to vote on whether they will accept 11p in the pound. The FT (£) has an attractive chart showing that Wall Street’s mortgage-backed securities seem to be back, but only for commercial. Aldi plans to open hundreds of new stores, (also in The Times and FT (£)), but Asda doesn’t. And finally… Do the deal after lunch. The Times (£) reports that researchers from Dundee have proved that hungry people make poor financial decisions, turning down more money later in favour of less money now.
