Morris spin-off to focus on North West developments

North West-based volume housebuilder Morris Homes has spun off a niche development subisidiary.

Morris Developments will focus on urban infill and sites requiring a more flexible approach than those targeted by its parent company. The subsidiary has already launched 10 schemes amounting to 196 units and expects to sustain an annual development programme of around 200 to 300 units. It will work mainly in the North West.

Managing director Shaun Kerfoot said: “We will be looking at sites capable of producing up to 20 units – exactly the kind of thing Morris doesnt do today. We will act quite separately to Morris Homes in that we have our own management, sales and construction teams who will be able to take advantage of land opportunities which may otherwise have been considered unsuitable for a Morris Homes site. This may be due to their location, size or because they incorporate refurbishment of an existing property.”

The decision follows Morris’s acquisition last August of the housebuilding division of Allen Homes.
