Morrison replaces Vanson on £16m Carmarthen shopping centre development (07:30 GMT)

Morrison Developments has acquired the Greyfriars site in Camarthen, Dyfed, and is seeking an amended planning consent to build a £16m open-style shopping scheme on the land.

The firm has exchanged contracts to buy the site – which has permission for a 7,432 sq m (80,000 sq ft) covered shopping centre – from the Land Authority for Wales. LAW assembled the site for Vanson Developments by acquiring 28 separate interests over several years, but Vanson decided not to proceed with the scheme.

Morrison wants to build up to 24 units in a variety of sizes linking with the existing Tesco store and a 460-space car park. It will also develop a new bus station.

Blair Kirkman advised Morrison on the purchase and is letting agent. Vanson was represented by Jackson Criss and Healey & Baker.
