Morrisons and Capital Land to develop £40m leisure scheme at Lichfield

Morrison Developments and Capital Land have teamed up with Lichfield council to develop a £40m leisure scheme on a 283 ha (700 acre) site outside the town.

The scheme, known as Chasewater Leisure Park, will include a multiplex cinema, pub, restaurants, a hotel and a night-club. It will be built on the site of a derelict stadium at Chasewater, which is east of Pool Road and south of the proposed Birmingham Northern Relief Road.

Chasewater is situated between the villages of Burntwood, Norton Canes and Brownhills and is already home to a water park and a small business park. Lichfield council has been trying to attract a joint venture partner to develop the Chasewater area since it came into its possession after boundary changes in 1994.

A planning application will be submitted “within the next six months” according to the council. Councillor Martin Machray, chairman of the council’s Leisure and Chasewater sub-committees, said: “Our partners have a proven track record of achieving high quality development and I am confident that this heralds the start of a new era for the whole of Chasewater and the surrounding area.”

Lichfield council leader Peter Van Hagen added: “Our plans are of a scale and quality unmatched by anything else proposed in the area.”
