Morrisons lines up DIY anchor for Halifax scheme

Outline planning permission has been granted for a £10m scheme close to the centre of Halifax in west Yorkshire.

Morrison Developments will work up a 6,000 sq m (65,000 sq ft) 3.24 ha (8 acre) site on Charlestown Road opposite a new Sainsbury’s.

Julian Rawson, development manager at Morrisons, said: “The scheme will be anchored by a major DIY operator with whom we are in negotiations. We are also talking to several other interested parties, the results of which will determine the size and exact number of units.”

“The site is close to the town centre and because of the difficult Pennine topography, represents a rare opportunity for bulky goods retailers to obtain representation on one site in the town,” he added.

Work on site is due to start in spring.

Harvey Spack Field and Eddisons are advising Morrisons.
