Morrisons, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket group, is to develop a new 400,000 sq ft distribution centre at TCN UK’s 20-acre Express Link site, Bridgwater, Somerset.

It has acquired the former Gerber foods plant on Express Link, where it is likely to retain about 170,000 sq ft of 1980s space and build a further 230,000 sq ft to replace older buildings.

A spokesperson for Morrisons said “Express Link has good access to J23 of the M5 and provided an opportunity for us to make a strategic acquisition which we hope will be very important in our future operation and expansion throughout the South West.”

James Gregory, director, TCN UK, said: “We had been aware of Morrisons’ requirement for quite some time and working with Sedgemoor Council. This is a tremendous boost for North Bridgwater and the local economy”.

Alder King, DTZ and Lambert Smith Hampton represented TCN UK.

TCN also operates Express Park in Bridgwater, a 105-acre mixed-use development incorporating four major Grade A office buildings, and 1.1m sq ft of warehouse buildings.
