Morrisons to close two distribution facilities

Morrisons will close two distribution facilities totalling over 1m sq ft at sites in Aylesbury and Bristol.

The supermarket has blamed the closures on an excess of logistics space after the purchase of Safeway in March 2004 for £3bn.

It will also cut 1,600 staff.

Agents for the 600,000 sq ft shed at Aylesbury and the 385,000 sq ft Cribbs Causeway unit have yet to be appointed, and the timescale for closure and disposal remains unclear.

It is understood that operations will be transferred to Morrisons’ Northampton facility.
