Mortgage approvals down 1.2%

Mortgage approvals were below expectations at 68,315 in February, down from 69,114 a month earlier, data from the Bank of England showed.

The 1.2% fall was the first decline since August.

Total unsecured household lending rose by £1.4bn, an increase of 10.5% on the year. Credit card borrowing was 9.3% higher on the year, the largest increase in 11 years.
