Mortgage approvals fell to their lowest level in 18 months in July, figures from the British Bankers’ Association show.
Banks approved 37,662 home loan applications, down from 39,763 in June and a drop of 19% on the year.
However, an increase in the average value of the loans meant that the total amount borrowed rose by 6%.
