Mortgage lending in March reached a record £16.6bn in March, adding to pressure on the Bank of England to raise interest rates.
The Council of Mortgage Lenders this week published figures showing that lending rose by 35% compared to the same month last year in March, and warned that first-time buyers could find themselves priced out of the market.
