Motorola dials up one of the year’s largest prelets

Motorola is poised to sign up for one of the years largest prelets. The mobile phone giant has agreed terms at Slough Estates Farnborough Aerodrome site.

It has been seeking 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) for its European HQ for six months, and signed a lock-out agreement in the summer to take part of the site.

Bruce Hibbert at GVA Grimley, advising Motorola, said: “We have now agreed terms on a site although nothing has yet been signed. We are hoping to close the deal soon.”

Motorola will take the space in two phases, with an initial commitment for 18,580 sq m (200,000 sq ft). This will be expanded to meet the full 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) in the next few months.

Bruce Usher at Slough Estates said: “We cant commit to anything until weve got consent. Once we start building the first phase, well be marketing it very hard.”

However, a source close to Slough confirmed that Farnborough is the chosen site. He said: “I am very confident that Motorola will be going there.” CB Hillier Parker is marketing the site.
