Mouchel has beaten off competition from rivals Owen Williams and Unicorn to win a £20m contract to manage Kent County Council’s corporate property portfolio.
Under the terms of the five-year contract, Mouchel will manage the design, maintenance and refurbishment of more than 500 schools and 1,100 corporate buildings, including Kent’s libraries and council offices.
More than 80 council staff will transfer to Mouchel under the terms of the contract. If performance targets are met Mouchel has an option to extend the contract by another two years.
A spokesman for Kent County Council said the decision to transfer the authority’s property portfolio was prompted by the councils recent Best Value review. He said: “The review led us to conclude that privatisation of the property portfolio would offer an improved service and therefore better value for both council taxpayers and staff.”
This is Mouchel’s third local authority property management contract. The company also manages Bedfordshire County Council’s and North Yorkshire County Council’s corporate property portfolios.
