Mount Anvil and the London International Exhibition Centre have been granted planning consent for 854 homes in phases two and three at Western Gateway in Canning Town, E16.
Newham Council has approved plans for the redevelopment of the 2.5-acre West End Car Park, to the north of the Royal Victoria Docks.
The approval for development of two blocks of buildings up to 22-storeys supersedes the previous consent for 796 homes.
Phase two and three includes 228 affordable homes, with a mix of social rented, affordable rent and shared ownership tenures, equating to 35% affordable housing by habitable room.
It brings the total number of homes at the development to 959 homes. The large scale application will now go to the Mayor of London for the final rubber-stamping.
The Greater London Authority owns the freehold to the site. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and EPR are the architects. DP9 is the planning consultant.
