Mowlem loses patience over unpaid bell tower bill

A chaplain to the Queen faces legal action to recover £600,000 because his church has failed to pay John Mowlem for the worlds first fully-glazed bell tower it built at Basildon, in Essex.

John Mowlem said it had shown the ‘patience of Job’ but it now wanted the outstanding construction bill settled.

The Church of England is embarrassed because neither chaplain Canon Webber or his church have the money to pay.

He turned down an offer of National Lottery funds to help pay for the tower because he did not think he would need the money at the time.

The tower opened in April 1999.
