Henry Boot Developments is working in partnership with hotel management company Khanna Enterprises to bring Moxy, a Marriott International brand, to Manchester.
Planning has been submitted for a 130-bed hotel at its Silk Works development in Spinningfields, currently known as Invicta House.
This change-of-use application follows planning consent for the redevelopment of the building for office use at the end of last year. Situated on Atkinson Street and Scott Place, the eight-storey scheme will comprise the refurbishment and extension of Invicta House, adding a further 35,000 sq ft to the existing 15,000 sq ft. The new extension will sit behind the existing façade on Atkinson Street, with the new-build element clad in weathered steel.
Moxy was launched in 2016 and opened its first hotel in Milan. It made its debut in the UK in December last year at Aberdeen International Airport, where Henry Boot Developments is also delivering the £330m Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre. A millennial-focused boutique hotel concept, it combines “smart service and technology” with contemporary style aimed at “fun hunter travellers”.
NJL Consulting is advising on planning and Northmill Associates is the architect for the Silk Works scheme.
