Developer Mersey Property Company (MPC), whose 36-storey tower scheme in Liverpool was branded “joyless” by CABE, has agreed to cut the scheme to 30 storeys prior to a new planning application. The original design for the tower (pictured), at Princes Dock, contained 183 flats, a 135-bedroom Golden Tulip hotel, 87,000 sq ft of offices and 330 parking spaces but will be scaled back. Last September, architecture watchdog CABE said it could not support the development, which it described as “joyless”. Paul Bullock, director of MPC, said at the time that the scheme was “evolving”. MPC is a joint venture between Worcester Property Company and Berkshire-based Trine. The revised 30-storey scheme is expected to be submitted for planning to Liverpool city council imminently. Knight Frank is advising MPC on the scheme, which is designed by architect RMJM.
