The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has attacked the costs of venues for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The MPs said organisers had been “spending money like water”. They highlighted the soaring cost of the Zaha Hadid-designed aquatics centre which rose from £75m in 20005 to £303m.
The government has admitted taxpayers might have to pay even more towards the cost of the Games because of the global credit crisis and falling house prices. Bovis Lend Lease, chosen to build the £2bn Olympic village, is reported to be struggling to raise funds from banks.
