Mr Cheesegrater buys London’s priciest house

A Knightsbridge mansion has become London’s most expensive home after being sold for more than £200m to the owner of the “Cheesegrater” skyscraper.

Cheung Chung-kiu, whose company CC Land bought the Leadenhall Building two years ago for £1.15bn, is buying the seven-storey mansion at 2-8a Rutland Gate through Beauchamp Estates.

The 62,000 sq ft, 45-bedroom home, previously owned by the late Saudi crown prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, could remain a private residence or be converted into an apartment block, in which case its value could reach £700m.

The 1830’s property, which was once four town houses, has been available since 2012, and boasts grand state rooms, several lifts and a swimming pool.
