A fresh wave of job cuts has put the future of Marks & Spencer’s head office in doubt.
The retailer has around 4,000 people working at its head office on North Wharf Road, W2, but hundreds are thought to be marked for dismissal.
It is understood to be weighing up whether to ditch its headquarters, a modern glass-fronted office next to London’s Paddington station, altogether when the lease comes up for renewal in 2028.
Last October, chief executive Stuart Machin told investors he did not see the need for M&S to have a large central London head office.
In 2020, M&S cut 950 head-office jobs as part of a broader cull of 7,000 roles.
Marks & Spencer has said the claims are “simply inaccurate”.
