Marks & Spencer has agreed to take two floors of the former Debenhams store at Grosvenor’s Liverpool ONE to create a new anchor in the mall.
M&S will occupy a 100,000 sq ft store in the 2.7m sq ft shopping centre, set to open mid-2023. The retail chain is moving from Church Street to the new location on South John Street.
M&S’s Liverpool ONE investment is part of the retailer’s national store rotation programme, which aims to create an M&S store estate fit for the future.
The Liverpool ONE store will feature a next-generation food hall, clothing and home departments, plus a café, dedicated coffee-to-go section, in-store bakery, food-to-go aisle and fresh produce. The fashion and homewares departments will showcase the brand’s own ranges, along with its collaborations and capsule collections.
Alison Clegg, managing director and asset management at Grosvenor, said: “The signing of M&S at Liverpool ONE is a great reflection of Grosvenor’s strategy of marrying the needs and wants of consumers to those of leading brands.
“M&S is seeking modern space that allows it to deliver an enhanced experience for consumers, who themselves are searching for ever-greater choice and value. By working closely with the M&S team, combining our consumer insight with theirs, we have created what we all believe to be a fantastic new store.”
Pete Dobson, regional manager at M&S, said the new store would “offer the very best of M&S in a prime location in the city centre”.
The signing of M&S completes the evolution of the former Debenhams unit, following the announcement in April that Gravity Active Entertainment is creating a £10m, 100,000 sq ft entertainment experience on the upper two floors.
Metis Real Estate Advisors and CBRE acted for Liverpool ONE. Savills advised M&S.
