Marks & Spencer is closing its store in Covent Garden, WC2, and will vacate the premise in March 2018.
The 20,000 sq ft shop on Long Acre, which is owned by the Mercers Company, is likely to attract a range of retailers.
The decision to exit the site forms part of M&S’s wider strategy to close around 10% of its UK store estate as part of a property review.
It has also confirmed it will close six other shops in Portsmouth, Hampshire; Slough and Wokingham in Berkshire; Monks Cross, York; Warrington, Cheshire; and Worksop, Nottinghamshire.
The retailer is looking to grow its foods business and sell clothes from less locations by opening 200 new food-only shops and sell clothes from 60 less locations.
It currently has 959 stores in its UK estate, which includes 304 full-line stores, 615 food-only stores and 40 outlets.
