Wembley bosses say they took a “zero tolerance” policy following a newspaper report of drug-taking on the stadium building site.
The Sun today claimed dozens of the 3,500 workers at the £750m venue were secretly using either cannabis or cocaine.
A former on-site electrician told the newspaper: “Drugs are taken in the toilets inside the stadium and cannabis is dealt. It’s everywhere.”
Workers are also claimed to have laughed at the idea that the north London stadium would be finished in time for the FA Cup final in May.
Bosses have said there is still a 70% chance that construction firm Multiplex would meet the deadline.
A Multiplex spokesman told The Sun: “Allegations of drug use are treated with the utmost seriousness.”
Police were said to have been informed, according to the newspaper.
A Wembley Stadium spokesman said: “Multiplex are quite rightly taking these allegations extremely seriously and are taking the appropriate steps to enforce their zero tolerance policy towards drugs and alcohol on site.
“Wembley stadium shares their zero tolerance approach and endorses their actions but it is now a matter for police.”
