Muse Developments and the Homes and Communities Agency have got the go ahead for the first phase of the £350m regeneration of Union Square in Swindon.
Work on the scheme is set to begin in late spring.
Plans for a residential building comprising 45 assisted living flats and an 850-space multistorey car park form the first phase of the project. The flats will be operated by Westlea Housing Association, and the car park will be managed by Swindon borough council.
Muse development director Doug Finlay said: “This approval is a significant milestone for the project, and will ensure a start on site in the late spring. The total build cost for this first phase is around £25m, which will bring much needed investment into the town.”
Chris Hitchings, director of development at Forward Swindon, added: “This initial phase of development will begin to change the face of Swindon town centre, and around summer 2013, we can look forward to the first offices of Union Square starting on site. It’s a great start to the year, and everyone on the project is excited.”
