Muse Developments has been chosen as the 50/50 joint venture partner in Wirral Council’s £1bn mixed-use regeneration plan.
Wirral Council’s cabinet will meet to approve the 10-year partnership with Muse next Wednesday to create the Wirral Growth Company.
If approved, the company will start a consultation on how to drive regeneration in sites across areas including Bebington, Birkenhead, Bromborough, Moreton and Seacombe.
During the bidding process, Muse and other bidders – including Scarborough Group – had to explain how they would create grade-A office space in Birkenhead, affordable housing in Seacombe and care housing in Moreton.
Phil Davies, council leader at Wirral Council, said: “The standard of the final bids we received was very high. Those who say the council should or could do this alone are mistaken.
“These are projects that simply cannot be developed by the council in isolation. We don’t have the required resources, skills or capacity to achieve regeneration on this scale without a partner.”
Plans for the Wirral Growth Company were announced at MIPIM last year.
It was part of the council’s efforts to meet its “2020 Pledges”, which included creating 5,000 jobs, 3,500 homes and attracting £250m of new inward investment by 2020.
