Museum funding to unlock sales

Blythe-House-THUMB.jpegSPENDING REVIEW 2015:  Chancellor George Osborne has confirmed funding to help move the storage depots of some of the UK’s best-known museums out of London in a move which will help unlock the sale of their existing bases.

Osborne said cash would be available for museum depot relocations including the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The V&A’s collections are stored at Blythe House in Kensington, W14, a site which has long been considered ripe for a major luxury residential redevelopment.

The cost of relocation the collection has previously been the major barrier to a sale of the prime site.

The Spending Review document said:  “The government will also provide £150 million to provide new world class museum storage facilities to replace Blythe House in London.”
