Musk aims for Mars with oil rig buy

Elon Musk will convert two oil rigs he bought last year for $7m into launchpads for space rockets.

His SpaceX company is working on the oil rigs in the Port of Brownsville in Boca Chica, Texas, where it is developing the Starship, a prototype Mars rocket ship.

This month Musk became the world’s richest man after a rally in the Tesla share price pushed his paper fortune to $190bn. Despite his wealth he has few possessions, having sold $137m of real estate since his 1 May vow on Twitter to “own no house”.
