Nasdaq firm locates in Belfast

The Northern Irish Industrial Development Board (IDB) is letting a call centre in north Belfast to Nasdaq listed TeleTech Holdings.

The IDB has announced that its Northgate speculatively built factory at Duncairn Gardens, Belfast is being fitted out for the Denver based company’s customer care operations.

TeleTech has been offered Selective Financial Assistance of £7.17m towards the £11m costs of its second European call centre, which it is hoped will create 900 jobs in an unemployment blackspot.

The 7,200 sq m (80,000 sq ft) call centre is scheduled to begin operations in early October.

TeleTech’s chief executive officer, Scott Thompson said: “Our key requirements when locating a centre are a strong workforce and excellent telecommunications infrastructure. We opted for Belfast because it provided the right combination of flexible, highly motivated available people with a robust and resilient telecommunications network.”

The investment lends credence to a recent Mitial survey that suggested Northern Ireland was the best location for call centres in the UK. It follows the news last week that Insurance Advisory Services, a specialist insurance provider, located a back office and call centre operation in a 2,700 sq m (30,000 sq ft) unit on the IDB’s Springvale Business Park on West Belfast’s “peaceline”.

Founded in 1982, TeleTech which has a market captitalisation of US$1.9 billion provides e-commerce-enabling customer relationship management solutions (eCRM) for global organisations in the telecommunications, financial services, technology, government and transportation industries.
