Nationwide appoints first female boss

Nationwide Building Society has appointed TSB’s Debbie Crosbie as its next chief executive and executive director.

The mortgage lending mutual’s first female boss since its creation in 1846 will take the reins from Joe Garner, who announced in September that he would be stepping down.

Crosbie, who is currently chief executive of TSB, will take up the position in the first half of 2022.

Crosbie said: “Nationwide’s mutual status, combined with its trusted brand and market-leading customer service, make it a purposeful and unique force for good. I’m delighted to be asked to lead the society in its next phase of growth, and to work with its members and colleagues to make it the leading retail financial services provider in the UK.”
